Beauty and the Beast: Loving a Classic

When I head there was going to be a live action movie of Beauty and the Beast, I was stoked. A bit worried, I admit. Whenever we see a beloved movie remade in anyway, we all cringe and think “Please don’t screw this up.” (Well, at least I do). When I heard who would play Belle, I had much hope for the movie. Emma was perfect for the role!

When the trailer was released, my excitement level went through the roof. And Beast, well, he looked awesome.

I admit, I never got to watch it until Sunday afternoon. Don’t ask why it took me ages to finally get to it. The timing when it was at the theater wasn’t good for me. So, when I seen it on Netflix, I asked a friend to watch it with me. (Because she didn’t even know the story! I just had to catch her up.)

I love this story. I have always been a sucker for romance. And a guy with a library? Yes, please! 😉

There’s one thing about the movie I especially loved. Over the years I have heard people talk about the fact this story is about Stockholm Syndrome.

Just. No.

This movie focused on what it really is about.  The fact Belle and Beast both felt alone and outcasts. Beast, of coarse, couldn’t go out into the world as he was. And, as he said in the film, “As soon as I walk into a room the laughter dies.”

Belle tells him that the people in her village call her a “funny girl.”  That her village feels almost as lonely as his castle.

The two of them could find comfort and friendship in each other before falling in love.

Oh, and another reason why this is my favorite Disney film: it’s one of the few stories where it’s the prince who needs saving.

Which classic movie/story is your favorite? Tell me in the comments!!

Cuteness on a Glum day

Needless to say, the world isn’t the nicest of places. Every day you watch the news or listen to the radio and hear of one sad story or another. Or hear of a horrible tragedy.

Not gonna lie, but today is a bit of a glum/blue kinda day. The rainy weather and grey sky doesn’t add to my mood, either.

But you know what I love and turn to on these kinds of days? Animals. Heart warming stories or funny animal videos. I am a softie especially when animals are involved. So, if you need a pick-me-up or love animals in general, here are three beauties you will love. (Today is dog themed. They are the best 😉 )

Meet Fred. He’s adopted some orphaned ducklings. Like, how cute is this?!

Read about Fred and his new babies over here.

Some heroes have fur and bark. Like this guy. I found this pic over on Pinterest not long ago. (Can’t find original owner, but credit to them).  It is amazing what animals can do. This warms my heart to no end. I’m not crying, by the way. Someone is chopping up onions…

And last but not least, Youtube is where I go for a laugh. Here is one compilation of funny dog videos. Sometimes hubby and I will put Youtube on and go down the rabbit hole as we watch one after another.

Remember, even on a bad day there is goodness out there. When in doubt, just turn to a dog. Proof that love and goodness do exist. ❤

What do you turn to when your mood is the pits? Do you have a cute and adorable pupper?

Mini Writing Update

I sat down this evening to write an author bio for an anthology my writers group is putting out. I’m pretty excited about it and I will be sharing the writing news and updates in the near future.

Writing an author bio is…weird. At least that’s how I found it. I tried to make mine sound like fun. Tried being the key word here. I didn’t realize how important an author bio is until I hit up Google for tips. I like it when the bio is light and fun, so I aimed to do the same.

I also finished the line edits for my short story, Switched. This is story number five in the Lily and Quinn series and it’s an attempt at writing humor, which is what the theme is of our anthology.

It feels really good getting these two things done, even though it didn’t take long. I’m not prolific but I have reached my goal of being published and not giving up, so that’s what matters to me. However if the hubby and I ever win the lotto I would give up my day job and sit at my desk a little more. 😉

May Madness

Hey all!

How is May going for you? It’s been an interesting month so far, both in my life as well as the world in general. To my fellow authors, #cockygate: wtf?!

I haven’t had a chance to write a proper post. I have been pretty busy, which is a good thing. But I wanted to pop in and keep the writing wheels greased.

Work is crazy busy. Everyone wants their toes lookin’ good since summer is on the way. The weather is warming up and the sun is out more. People still complain that it is chilly. Like, there is NO snow on the ground, be happy!

Also I have had to tackle some “not fun” stuff like paper work prep to get my taxes done. Being self employed means I get extra time to file. AKA more time to procrastinate like a motherfucker.

Mr. C left Sunday for work. Which means I can spring clean and purge without him underfoot. I love him but it’s so much easier to do these things with him out of the house. I can work uninterrupted and I can toss things without him questioning me. My goal: get the housework done by next weekend so I can slack off til he gets home. And by slack off I mean catch up on Supernatural and write.

Even though I am busy my imagination is always at work. I am excited to be able to get to some projects. I also hope to get to some creative projects before the month is over as well.

So, how is May treating you so far?

Infinity War: My Emotional Rambles

Friday night me and the hubby finally sat down to watch Black Panther, which was amazing.  Since we finally were caught up, yesterday after running errands we did dinner and a movie. The obvious choice was going to see Infinity War, which we were both anxious to see.

So before I go any farther, there’s two things I need to say. For starters, this is less a review and more of a place for me to get my feelings out about this film. There are A LOT of details in this movie and I am only touching on a few of them.

And second:

You can’t say you haven’t been warned.

My husband told me as we walked into the theater that the one thing he heard was that there was multiple deaths.

Understatement of the year.

Infinity War basically started off with a bang. For the first few minutes I was expecting the screen to go black with ‘One Week Earlier’ or something pop up. But no, sadly not. The shit storm was just getting started.  Heimdall musters enough power to send Hulk back to Earth. Thanos then kills Heimdall, along with Loki. Within the first few minutes, two characters are dead and we were left wondering about Thor. I thought he was toast.

As the movie continues, I am an eager beaver for the reunion of the avengers, plus the guardians to meet up. Not to mention Doctor Strange, Spider Man, The Black Panther, etc…  I was really looking forward to these worlds colliding.

Even though this movie was not uplifting, it had comic relief which was much needed. I feel like Doctor Strange and Tony Stark could have a fun bromance. Drax and Groot are always great for lightening the mood as well.

The action scenes were all amazing. I loved how Doctor Strange fought alongside Tony and how their abilities intermingled.

I was expecting Captain America to die the entire time. Especially with Bucky back on the scene, I figured the Cap was finally going to bite it.

When he is face-to-face with Thanos I was thinking “Ok, here it is. It’s happening. Don’t cry like a baby in the theater.” Funny enough, he was one of the lucky ones to survive.

Thanos will stop at nothing to get the rest of the stones. In one scene he and Gamora are with The Red Skull to get the soul stone. Thanos is seen with tears running down his face. He kills Gamora so that he can take possession of the Soul Stone.

The team try to have Vison’s Mind Stone removed in Wakanda. (Sidenote: Shuri was one of my favorite characters in Black Panther. She is a super smart chick with some badass tech). Vison also comes to death at the hands of Thanos when Thanos took the stone out of Vison’s head. This causes an explosion and Wanda/Scarlet Witch dies as well.

By the end of this movie, almost everybody is dead. Not even joking. Thanos manages to get all the stones, snaps his fingers, and people start to disintegrate. The one that got me the most was Spiderman. I read earlier part of that scene he improvised.  Never thought Spidey would make me well up. He tells Tony he isn’t feeling so good before holding onto Tony saying “I don’t want to go” as he turns to ash.

While I know there will be a part two and a lot of the death and damage will probably be undone, I still sat in the theater when it was over in shock. The after credit scene wasn’t much better. Nick Fury turns to ash just as he sends a signal: the symbol we see is for Captain Marvel.

And I wonder, in part two, how much of the death will be undone? Will Loki and Gamora live again? Or are their deaths final? If nothing gets fixed that’s the shits since almost everyone is dead. But good overcomes evil, and the world needs more Avengers, Doctor Strange, Black Panther… But it leaves me wondering how the fuck is this going to get fixed? The gauntlet Thanos wore looked like it was damaged after he snapped his fingers. So, does the gauntlet reverse everything? Captain Marvel? Some other source of magic?

So many questions! I hate having to wait a year to find out what’s going to happen. In the meantime I will rehash everything with friends as we come up with a million theories as to what will happen next.

What are your thoughts on the movie? What do you think will happen next?

Bookish Thoughts: My Childhood Reads

My dad used to tell me a story from when I was less then a year old. He would tell me that if I was passed a book that was upside down, I would flip it. If it was upside down and backwards, I flipped it and turned it around.

I guess I was a bookworm from day 1.

Books were the number one gift given to me, and if I got money for an occasion, I added to my bookshelf. Since I have been feeling nostalgic of late, I thought I would share a few of my fave books from my childhood!

#1) I’m gonna jump right out of the gate with this classic series:

The Goosebumps series by R.L Stine were the most read books of my younger days. When the movie came out a few years ago, I was like a giddy ten year old. While it’s hard to pick just one of these as a favorite, One Day at Horrorland, Night of the Living Dummy and Monster Blood top my list.

#2) I am a big fan of many books by Robert Munsch. But The Paper Bag Princess was my favorite.

Why did I love this? Because she was awesome! Not only did she save the Prince, but when he was ungrateful and didn’t like her as she was, she left him behind to do her own thing. Plus, there was a dragon. What’s not to love?

#3) I had a different reason for loving this one.

I did love this book, and I even watched the tv show faithfully. And, since my last name was Fudge, I thought it was cool there was a character called Fudge.

#4) I think I may have a very worn out copy of this book somewhere.

My mom would read this to me almost every night. I would have her either start with this one or end with it, depending on my mood. My best memories growing up is my parents reading to me when I was little.

#5) Oh my heart! I almost forgot about this book (and series) until I hit Google.

all by myself

I can’t even right now. I loved this little character and All by Myself  is, I am pretty sure, buried in a plastic container I have kept odds and ends in. This makes me have all the feels ❤

These are just some of the books I read and loved. What about you? What book or books did you love to get in to?
