Fan Mail Friday

Standard

Happy New Year everyone!!! I hope that you all had a great night and aren’t suffering too badly from hangovers- both from the liquid and food variety. 😉

One of the things that ended my year was a surprise in my mailbox!

gen goodwin

My newest to the collection.

I am a huge fan of ‘Once Upon A Time.’ And I love Ginnifer Goodwin. I thought she was awesome on ‘Big Love’ and I adore her as Snow White.

Recently another auto came my way.

Another OUAT cast member, but this time the pic is from another role.

izombie

Rose McIver as Liv Moore.

If you haven’t checked out ‘iZombie’ yet, I highly suggest to give it a go! I love the characters, the story, and the fact Liv Moore is a zombie helping to solve crime. Thanks to one of her zombie side effects.

I haven’t been able to write letters in the last couple of months. During November, my words and energy was put into my novel. And with the holidays, not much extra was getting done. But now that all of that is behind me, it is time to get the pen and paper out and start writing some letters. To pen pals and celebs.

I hope you all are getting to relax today, and enjoy the first day of 2016!!! 🙂

Goosebumps: The Movie, Books and My Childhood

Standard

The first book series that I was OBSESSED with were the Goosebumps series written by R.L. Stine. I can’t stress what a HUGE part these books played in my childhood. And as I got older I read the Fear Street series as well.

goosebumps

I would devour these books in no time. Anytime I had a few bucks to spend, I bought a new book. For my birthday and Christmas, I was sure to get books or something Goosebump related.

They helped foster my love of horror and writing (I was already a big book nerd).

When the tv show I came out, I watched every episode.

My collection of these books went away over the years. When I was a teen I gave a good chunk of them away. And I regretted it. The few I had left are missing. Most likely lost when I moved a couple years ago.

After years of feeling nostalgic over these books, I heard that the movie was coming out.

goosebumps movie

And this weekend I finally got to see it.

Mr. C and I settled in on Friday night. Being the geek I am, I was getting really excited. I asked Mr. C if he had read the books. I got a big “nope”. And then I asked if he watched the tv show. Another nope. And my next thought was “But you won’t GET it!”

Yes he would get the story line and the monsters. But he wouldn’t get what I was feeling. As I watched the movie unfold, I sometimes got giddy. And as I seen Slappy come on screen, I looked at Mr. C and said “I’m 33 and he still gives me the creeps.”

I absolutely LOVED the movie. Jack Black isn’t an actor I usually like, but he nailed this role. I loved the story line, seeing the characters I loved growing up in action yet again. And after it was over, it ended in classic Goosebumps form. Just when you think everything is happy, there is that one last horror twist.

Did you read these books? What book(s) were you hooked on as a kid?

Fan Mail: Recent Successes!!!

Standard

With everything that has been going on lately, I have totally forgotten about my fan mail.

Back in July, Mister and I decided that we would make August our best writing month yet. Last year in July, we wrote 67 letters in one month. I said we needed to beat that! (Chalk that ambition up to the sun finally emerging and me getting an overdose of vitamin D, lol.)

So, in August we ended up writing 69 letters between us. I think he wrote more then me BUT I wrote a huge chunk. I would come home from work after a busy day, tired, and he would ask “So, who are you writing tonight?” My reply was zombie-like with an “uuughhhgg”.

However, the work paid off! We have already gotten successes from our August writing, and others from older letters. i have been pretty pumped with my new autographs!

auto flash

Grant from ‘The Flash’.

I also wrote to another cast member from ‘The Flash’. Robbie Amell was awesome enough to sign my pic!

auto robbie

“FireStorm”

I have gotten hooked on ‘Once Upon A Time’. I did watch season one and then for some reason wasn’t able to watch much of season two and nothing from then on. However I am quickly catching up and writing to some of the cast!

auto charming

Josh Dallas plays David/Prince Charming.

I sent two pics to him and he signed both! 🙂

auto 1

I was stoked to get this cast member the other day!!!

auto 2

I loved her on ‘House’ and now I love her as ‘Emma Swan’.

I also wrote to a couple of classy ladies. Women I have watched in re-runs when I was a kid. I loved them then and I love them now.

auto 3

Carol Burnett.

auto 4

Carol in one of her famous skits.

And the other classy and sassy lady is….

betty white

Betty White!!!

I still love her as Rose on ‘The Golden Girls’.

betty white 2

Golden Girl re-runs are the best 😀

I just had to write to these guys.

auto 5

Aaron Eckhart. I have loved him in so many roles over the years.

auto 6

Tim Allen!!!

And not to mention this awesome guy…

auto 8

John Travolta!!!

When you write to John Travolta, he will send you an extra autographed pic! Here it is:

auto 7

The extra pic he sent. So cool!

I also wrote to some kick ass ladies. This autograph had me “squeeeeeeeeing” all the way out of the post office. One of my all time fave actresses!

auto melissa

Melissa McCarthy in ‘The Heat’ (which was frickin hilarious!)

My fave female vampire…

auto pam

Kristen Bauer Van Straten as ‘Pam’ in True Blood’.

And last but not least, a fab actress who I loved in ‘Chuck’ as well as Dexter.

auto

Yvonne Strahovski.

Wow! I didn’t realize how many I had come in since the last autographs I posted.

I love writing fan mail. And I love the thrill when I get an autograph in the mail. There are the odd ‘return to sender’ for various reasons, such as an outdated address, but that kind of things is rare in our mailbox (luckily!).

Until next time, happy writing! 🙂 (Or whatever makes your geek heart happy!)

My Newest Geek Obsession

Standard

I have many collections. From autographs and buttons, to books, bookmarks and artwork, many a thing grabs my attention.

And when something new takes hold, look out. When I discovered Smashbooks, I was at the craft store every chance I had buying Smashbooks and various supplies.

Recently Mr. C was talking to someone, and he learned about wardrobe cards. I had heard of them before but didn’t really pay attention. Kind of in one ear and out the other. But now things have changed.

What are wardrobe cards?

Well, I will show you!

wardrobe card 1

Sons Of Anarchy wardrobe card, featuring Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller.

Wardrobe cards have a small piece of fabric from something an actor wore. In this case, my card has a piece of hoodie that Charlie wore in S.O.A. On the back of the card, it states which episode he wore it in. (For you sports fans, you can also get cards with jersey’s as well as game used bats).

A couple of weeks ago I was having a bit of a rough patch. Mr. C wanted to cheer me up. So he bought me this as well as two other cards.

thor card

Thor. *heart eyes emoji*

He also got me this card, featuring a piece of shirt that Chris Hemsworth wore in Thor. And my third card to start my collection is something John Schneider wore in Smallville.

john card

Gotta love the flannel 😉

So this is a start to my newest addiction. No, I won’t be buying a ton of them in the next little while. (If only!) But I will be buying the odd one and adding some to my Christmas wish list. 🙂

Mr. C has been lucky. He found some sports ones for cheap and a guy he talks to online about cards is giving him about 10 baseball ones. While they are not my thing I think they are very cool and it is nice of this guy to share some of his collection.

So, what about you? Any of you discover a new geeky love?

Mail Call From Across The Globe

Standard

Imagine my surprise when I dropped into my post office this afternoon to find this waiting for me.

IMG-20150622-01594

A massive package from Australia and a fab letter from Quebec.

I have been pen pals with my girl Jess for….longer than I can remember.

And whenever we are able, we send each other Christmas and birthday gifts. Sometimes, like this year, we are late with our exchange. But nothing like getting a nice surprise in June!

IMG-20150622-01596

This right here means the world to me. These words say it all. My best friend is on the other side of the world but that doesn’t matter to us. (Sucks sometimes though!)

Even though we live far apart, we have a fantastic friendship. It is amazing how close you can become with someone when distance is a factor.

We have gotten to know each other very well. And she knows all my loves and obsessions, including my massive and unnatural love for Halloween. 😉

IMG-20150622-01597

Halloween cupcake tray, candles, and a wooden sign.

I also received a fab letter from a Canadian pal of mine. 🙂 I love the mail art and as a bonus she sent me geeky business cards for my collection!

Letter and business cards.

I love getting mail and this was more then I ever expected! Very grateful for the friendships I have. 🙂

A New Autograph and Fandom Friday!!

Standard

Well as promised, I said I’d be back this week with my first ever Fandom Friday!! The first theme is childhood movies.

Since I was unable to post earlier in the week, I’m bringing a bunch of geekiness to this post.

I was surprised tonight by a piece of mail. Mr. C thought it would be funny to hide my newest big brown envelope for awhile. I couldn’t be mad long when I opened it to find this!

img288

Hugh Jackman!!

I am a big fan of this guy and Wolverine is my most favorite character from the X-Men comics. So I am pretty stoked to have gotten this today! Yay!

My first Fandom Friday theme  was inspired when I was sick earlier in the month. When I had the flu from hell, I spent a few days on my sofa, watching some of my favorites growing up. Movies that I still watch on a regular basis. I have a lot of them so for today’s random movie list I am picking five of my faves!

#1: The Princess Bride

TPB

Princess Buttercup and Westly.

This movie is a classic, and has a little bit of everything. Fencing, true love, revenge, to name just a few. I can safely say that Westly was my first ever crush and love. What’s not to like about a handsome and rugged man hurrying to rescue and be with his true love? I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times.

#2- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

TMNT

Old school turtles are the best!!

These old school turtles are way better then the new ones. I wish that they had kept these costumes, I’m not even kidding. I grew up obsessed with these lovable dudes. (And even dressed as Michelangelo for Halloween when I was 10.) It’s actually been awhile since I watched these, so that’s going up high on my to do list.

#3- Harry and The Hendersons

Harry-and-the-Hendersons

One of the first movies I fell in love with. Right after The Princess Bride.

I was about seven when I watched this for the first time. And I am pretty sure that Harry is the reason why I began to love and learn about myths and legends. This movie is too cute with some laughs and a few feels.

#4- Lady Hawke

Ladyhawke-ladyhawke-21708576-1024-768

I always was a sucker for romance.

Not only did I love the setting of this movie, I loved the magic and even at ten years old, I loved romance. Especially when the two were torn apart and couldn’t be together. When you love someone, you can overcome anything. Even when it seems impossible.

#5- Star Wars

Star-Wars-Episode-IV-A-Ne-004

A badass team.

I don’t really think I need to explain my love of Star Wars. Because it is fecking STAR WARS!!! What is not to love!? And they have a wookie for fuck sakes! A WOOKIE!!!! When Mr. C and I have our Big Fat Geek Wedding next year, our emcee is even dressing up as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I should technically thank one of my sister’s, since she is the one who introduced me to all these movies and turned me into the movie buff that I am today.

So, what movies did you love growing up? 🙂

Fan Mail: How To Get Your Very Own Celeb (autograph!)

Standard

In a recent post I mentioned autographs I got through the mail, which sparked some conversation in the comments as well as out and about in my real life with some friends.

It wasn’t until last year when I got into it seriously. (Although not as hardcore as Mr. C, who has had waaaaay more luck then I have. But that is because he has sent many more letters.)

When I was a teenager, I wrote to celebs. I got their addresses in the back of magazines like Teen Beat and Tiger Beat. I only ever had one success, and that was an autograph from Rider Strong. (Which was a pre-print postcard. More on pre-prints shortly.)

Mr. C wrote to many as well, getting addresses from the internet. He has quite the collection. (It makes me green with envy. Shhh, don’t tell him I said that. 😉 )

lex

Micheal Rosenbaum. One of my first successes last year.

There are three things I send each time I write to a celeb. The letter (duh!), a SASE, and a photo. Here’s a few tips to up your chances at success!

1- The Letter. Make sure it is neatly hand written. Or type it. I tend to type mine, as sometimes (depending on my mood) my writing/printing is a tad sloppy. Plus, it is quicker for me to type.

clay-bitten

Greyston Holt from ‘Bitten’. On the back he wrote “Thanks for the lovely letter.” It is an added thrill and a bonus when they take an extra moment to write a little something. It is rare, but it happens.

2-SASE. (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). It is what it sounds like. Enclose the proper envelope with your address and postage. We always write “DO NOT BEND” on the back and front of the envelope. This makes things much more convenient and really helps your chances. Once your photo is signed, they can pop it in the envelope and put it in the outbox. Now, since I am Canadian, and IRC’s (International Reply Coupons) are expensive, I save those for international mail. (*Note. Some countries don’t use these anymore. We are still looking into it but I think England is one of them. Sometimes, however, a celeb will add the postage them self.) For American, we order the Forever stamps online on Ebay. (We use the large manila envelopes so two of those  do the trick.)

img163

Caity Lotz from “Arrow”. On one feed back website, one guy had sent her actual cash for postage, and she returned it to him. Nice, huh?

3-The Photo. We usually get 8×10’s, and the odd time 4×6’s. For our fave actors, we get the large ones. Mr. C has also made us custom cards. Pic of person on one side, logo or whatnot on the other.  We use Artscow.com for our photos. Cheap and most often great quality (The odd time an edge gets cut off.) You can also go to Walmart, Shoppers, or any other printing area, but Artscow has the best prices. ($1 for an 8×10, compared to $5 at Wal-Mart. And easier then us buying photo paper and loads of ink.) Of coarse, you can print off your own if that’s what you want. Some people send in DVD covers and the like.

img181

Jennifer Lawrence. I squeeeed the day this arrived!!!

4- The Celeb Address. So, there are a variety of websites you can use. Mr. C and I use Startiger.com. Now, there is a small monthly fee, but we find it worth it. (I THINK $5, but please don’t quote me. He is asleep and I dare not wake the sleeping bear to ask. But when we joined, I do remember him saying it was $4.99.) The site is worth it, though. There’s stats on your incoming/outgoing mail. And they keep as up-to-date as possible on addresses. You record your success (each day you can view the newest successes people have had.) You search a celeb and they show what address(es) are available, and what the stats are for them. (The more green you see, the better. Red is a failure and yellow means ‘pending’.) We upload a pic of our newest autograph and post it to the site. I know there are more benefits to this site, but he is our record keeper and I don’t go on there often. Another site we’ve used for addresses (which is FREE!) is Fanmail.biz. They also post successes, the dates of them, etc…

img165

Jason Momoa. “Game of Thrones”. (Pretty sure my drool didn’t hit the photo.)

5- The Autograph. There is the odd time a celeb sends out a pre-print. Which means he/she signed a photo, had it copied a bunch of times, and sends it out. (Especially if they are super busy and don’t have the time to personally sign photos. But hey, you still got an autograph.)  Sometimes, like with my Jason Momoa, he signed the pic BUT not the one I sent. (I am not complaining, though. 😉 )  And if you wonder if the signature is real or if the assistant did it, you can always compare to what other people got. (This is another feature we love about Startiger. We’ve-LUCKILY-had no issues like that so far).

img168

Oh Dexter, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Micheal C. Hall. Extra pumped to get this one!

6- Be Patient. Sometimes it can take a long time to get a response. We have gotten them as quickly as three weeks. And as long as five months. One person Mr. C talked to waited TWO YEARS before they got an autograph. But hey, least they got it! If you don’t join a site where you can keep track, write down your incoming/outgoing dates and info in a journal or on a device.

img146

Kurt Russell!

7-Have Fun. This is a hobby, one that you should relax and have fun with. Sitting down to write the letter is fun, but when you go to your mailbox to see an envelope with your writing on it: priceless! More then once I have called Mr. C from my car, giddy and screaming “Guess WHO I just got in the mail?!” We each have our own scrapbooks in which we keep our collection. And we enjoy hauling it out to show other geeks and fangirls and boys. It is a hobby that isn’t for everyone, but we sure love and enjoy it.

tim (2)

Tim. Freaking. Burton. Need I say more?

So, if you decide to give fan mail a shot, let me know how it goes for you!!! I would love to hear about it! 🙂 Are you someone who already writes fan mail? What are your fave successes? And who would you like to write to??? If I missed anything, feel free to ask a question!
