Ok so I fibbed…but just a little

I said before that I wasn’t rushing the summer away. But I guess that isn’t really true. As much as I love (and need) sunshine and long days, I am really REALLY eager for fall to come.

I try not to rush the summer, because I dread winter. In my part of the world, sometimes winter feels never ending. In Cape Breton, sometimes winter starts in November and we are lucky if the snow is gone in April. (I remember a snow storm once on May 18th… *shudder*) And, I don’t do well in the winter. My depression is at it’s worst, especially by February and March. We were lucky a few years in a row to have mild winters that nobody minded. But we paid for that since. (Snowmageddon and the Snopocalypse).

I love autumn, especially October. I mean, what isn’t to love?! Thanksgiving, Halloween, apple cider, corn mazes, and the splendid colors that fall brings, just to name a few.

I am already mentally making a fall to do list. It is hard not to, especially since my Pinterest feed is filled with everything autumn and spooky.

When it comes to my writing, I am mostly putting fiction to the side. I want to work on this blog (don’t hold your breath, but let’s see what happens 😉 ), and journal. Not just randomness but write down memories of my dad, life events, etc… Try to catch up on those sorts of things.

I won’t stay away from fiction totally. I plan to use my favorite time to write a short story. Maybe give horror another shot or just a fun or spooky story set on Halloween.

So, hate me if you must but fall is calling my name. I want the crisp evenings, comfy sweaters and to hear the crunching of leaves beneath my feet.

What season soothes your soul?

Writer Gears Are Rusty But They Are Turning

With October around the corner, there’s a lot on my mind. I love fall and all that comes with it. And usually part of that is prepping for NaNoWriMo.

Until yesterday, I didn’t even know if I was going to do it or not. None of my recent ideas or projects I wanted to start interested me. With the wedding officially less then a year, I have a lot to do and get done for it. I feel stressed, and NaNo is for sure an added stress and time bandit.

I was at work, cleaning up and the like when all of a sudden an idea hit me. Something fun. Something I think I can get really creative with. And it excited me!

I haven’t written a heck of a lot this year. I’ve had personal issues and a lot has been put on the back burner. It made me sad that my ‘writer brain’ was sitting, getting rusty, and I wondered if I would ever use it again.

Right away I scribbled a few notes down before my next client came in. I don’t have a whole lot planned out, not even a full skeleton. But I have something to start with. A basic idea and two characters. That’s enough for me to get into my novel prep!

Over the next few days and over the coarse of October, I will build and create my main characters, and do some world building. I will work on character sketches, create a story board on Pinterest, a ‘Novel Bible’, and do a lot of brainstorming.

So, fellow writers, have you decided if you are taking part in NaNoWriMo? If so, do you have an inkling as to what you’re writing about, or still in “maybe I will just wing it” mode? Do tell! 🙂

Happy Autumn!!

Today is the first day of my favorite season!

I love everything about the fall. Autumn is full of all sorts of good stuff. Including my favorite month of the year, which is just a few days away!

I’m making plans for blog posts for during October. If I have it my way, there will be lots. With Thanksgiving, prepping for Halloween and even NanoWriMo, there’s lots to do and write about.

What is your favorite thing about autumn? 🙂

Hello, October!

My favorite month of the year has FINALLY arrived! *happy dance*

There is so much about this month that I love. Hot chocolate, cool evening walks, Halloween, and the VERY important life event- the return if ‘The Walking Dead’! The countdown is on!!! 😀 (11 days to go!!! WOOT WOOT!!!) Who else is ready for some zombie ass kicking?!

I’ll probably be doing several autumn/Halloween posts during the month. There really is a lot going on for me during October. I think a big part of my love for it is Halloween. But I’ll save that for another day.

Another big thing this month is prepping for Nanowrimo. If you don’t know what it is, Nanowrimo is National Novel Writing Month, which takes place the month of November. The idea is to write a 50k word novel; a first draft. Since this is done on the honor system, you get more out of it if you don’t cheat. My first year was amazing. I wrote 25,000 words in the first three days, It started on the weekend, I had a basic outline, and I was full of excitement. In the years I have taken part, I have failed a few times but I don’t get down about it. Better to have written something, than not at all. So during October, I will be finishing character sketches and creating a rough outline. If you are interested, go to Nanowrimo.org and check it out. 🙂

My October has rung in with a migraine, so I have to cut this a bit short. I do plan to enjoy the brisk air this evening with a walk, and curl up with a book if my headache decides it is finished with me. What things about October do you love the most?
