My Big Fat Geek Wedding

Standard

I am a bit late with my post this week. My personal goal is to post at least once a week, but when you have a migraine for a few days, your entire week goes to hell.Β I had been hoping to write another “From The Book Pile” but again, my migraine prevented me from reading. Hopefully I finish my next book by weeks end.

So, I thought this would be the perfect time Β to finally write about the best day of 2016-my wedding day. πŸ™‚

When Mr. C and I were planning, we wanted to make the day reflect us and what we love. After all, this is the one time we are doing this. So, after some talking, I came up with “Geek Chic”. And that is exactly what we had. A beautiful wedding with just the right amount of geekery added in. So if you are planning a geeky wedding, or having a unique theme, these may give you some ideas for your own big day. πŸ™‚

First I need to say that thanks to our amazing photographers, Nicole and Mike White -a husband and wife team from White Photography- we have every moment from our amazing day captured. I could never thank them enough for taking these photos, and making our day run smooth. I will cherish these for a lifetime.

My amazing comic book shoes. Made my myself and my kick ass Matron of Honor.

My Lord of The rings necklace, D20 earrings (I also had zombie earrings.)

Along with the nerdy accessories, I also had traditional. I wore my nan’s pearl necklace as a wrap around bracelet.

I loved my handbag I bought on Etsy.

Another non nerdy item…but my favorite.

img_1282

Not geeky, but very special. A heart cut from my late dad’s shirt. So his heart was next to mine on my special day.

While I wore a variety of items, Mr. C went with one theme. His awesome accessories were all Star wars.

Cuff links. Darth Vader for hubby, Boba Fett for the Best Man and Storm troopers for the groomsmen.

Shoes from the Dark Side πŸ˜‰

And yes, even their boutineer’s were Star wars. They matched their cuff links. My MoH added the Star Wars bit and my florist Trinity did the rest.

After each of us got ready (me at a B&B, him at a friends house), we did photos with our side of the wedding party before him and I met up for our first look. It was one of my favorite parts of the day. I highly recommend it. It was just the two of us and our photographers. It was intimate and romantic.

Just the two of us ❀

Our bridal party photo session was a blast. Nicole knew from the start that Mr. C and I are total nerds. She had done some ‘killer’ engagement photos for us months prior. So when she suggested to do a zombie themed photo, we were all for it. And our bridal party got in on the fun!

Zombies won’t stop us from our “I do’s!”

We got married in a local fire hall. It was an evening wedding followed by the receiving line, wine and cheese, and the reception.

All the glasses had a nerdy image. The guys all had Star Wars. ALl done by Nabella Custom Design.

Our names made from old comic books. My Matron of honor (and her family) were huge help. She made and helped with a lot for my big day.

img_2407

Geeky quotes, perfect for a wedding day. A steampunk decorated birdcage was our card holder.

img_2420

Instead of a guest book, I had stacks of books drawn up (MoH and her hubby). People signed their names on the spine. My niece surprised me with these amazing programs. It is one of my fave wedding gifts.

img_2417

My littlest bridesmaid gave me this wish jar the night before the wedding. And yes, we even had a wedding hashtag. Not many people used it but it was a great way to find photos after the big day.

I walked down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. Not only do I love the song but it fit in with the movie buff side of us. (Don’t judge me for kinda liking Twilight πŸ˜‰

We did traditional vows, but we also did our version of a hand fasting/ hand fastening. With each braided ribbon that was tied around our hands, our JP had us say a line of nerdy vows. Which included, “To infinity and beyond”, “Live long and prosper”, “May the force be with you”, and “May the odds be ever in your favor”. Our guests just loved our fun and unique vows! Nobody was expecting that.

Once we were wed we walked out to Darth Vader’s Imperial March!

Pure happiness right here.

Later on, once the receiving line was finished, we walked back in to the theme song from Game of Thrones. I remember thinking “This is just how I pictured it! Just what I wanted”.

The guests had some time to check out our frickin awesome cake, made by one of my closest friends. Tanya worried I wouldn’t like it. She was right. I LOVED it!

img_2401

Thor’s hammer for a topper. She made comic book flowers to add a bridal look and put our fave symbols on the cake. This was even better (and yummier!) then I pictured. I bought a plain cake cutter and knife at Micheal’s and added comic book ‘Bam!’ and ‘Pow’ stickers to it.

Instead of having wedding favors, we did a candy buffet, so our guests could help themselves to our yummy treats. Needless to say, the entire table was a hit!

Once we got in and settled, I had a very special Master of Ceremony join us. It isn’t every day a Jedi Master takes part in a wedding!

img_3182

Our friend did a fantastic job of this.

Instead of the traditional clinking of the glasses to get us to kiss, we had our speakers roll a D20. This is a pillow my MoH made. This is now on the sofa in my game room. I made sure nobody got it dirty! πŸ˜‰

img_2740

The rest of the night was filled with a lot of dancing and fun had by all. And just about everyone got in on the photo booth action! I had encouraged guests to cosplay or wear nerdy attire. My friends didn’t disappoint. πŸ˜‰

No matter what you plan to do on your big day, don’t let anyone stop you from doing what YOU want to do. While most of my family had no idea what to expect, they loved and enjoyed what we did. And supported it because it was what I wanted. Let your freak flag fly, my friends. Do what makes you happy.

Incoming: Geek Mail!

Standard

One thing I love about penpalling, is making some great connections with people. I especially love creating new geeky friendships, like the one I have withΒ Shannon! πŸ™‚

Awhile back, we decided to do a mail swap. Since we have been writing to each other for awhile, I knew quickly that she’s good people, and I could trust her. And since she trusted me, we knew we wouldn’t get burned.

We are both big geeks and went with a fandom themed swap, and set the limit at $25. Which was hard since I wanted to buy her ALL THE THINGS.

Missing from the picture is a leather bracelet stamped with the phrase ''Bow ties are cool''. Guess which fandom? :P

This is most of what I sent Shannon for her swap. πŸ™‚ (Not in pic is a Doctor Who themed bracelet).

She loved what I sent, and today I received her swap! Which made me squeeeeeee! I am very pumped and love all that she sent! πŸ™‚

The first thing I opened were these lil beauties.

IMG-20150708-01613

Superman stickers and an Avengers projector pen!

And like the kid that I am, it didn’t take long for me to put on a light show.

IMG-20150708-01612

Avengers! I have a feeling I won’t get much writing done when using this pen! πŸ˜›

I pretty much mini freaked when I opened the next bit.

IMG-20150708-01616

I have loved Superman since I was itty bitty.

It’s a bit hard to tell in this pic, but those are Batman and Superman earrings. (Which might just end up being the earrings I wear next year for our big fat geek wedding!!! πŸ˜€ ) Also, Superman deco tape, which will be put to use this weekend when I sit to write some letters.

IMG-20150708-01615

Game of Thrones goodies.

And the spoiling continues. I am in love with these bookmarks and necklace from GoT. I am thinking Khal Drogo needs to go in my next book.

IMG-20150708-01614

Thor keychain and Lord of The Rings inspired earrings.

Thor’s hammer is about to go onto my key chain, next to my mini Jon Snow. And I giggled when I opened these earrings. I have been eyeing them up for awhile!! πŸ˜›

I am beyond happy with my swap and thrilled she loved hers as well. I also got a lovely letter as well, which I plan to reply to on the weekend. (As well as a couple of other letters I need to get to! Don’t worry peeps, I didn’t for get you! ^_^ )

After a very long day and a couple of more ahead of me, coming home to this package on my table was a great pick me up. πŸ™‚ Thank you again, Shannon!!!!! xoxoxo

Happy Mail!

Standard

Ever have one of those days that starts off so good that you just know it’s going to be a good day? That’s the kind of day I had. Totally makes up for last Friday, when anything and everything went to total crap right from the start.

I’ve mentioned before how much I love pen palling. I also LOVE Halloween. So today my mailbox had a bit of spooky fun πŸ˜‰ I got aΒ super cute handmade card from a good friend of mine who lives in The Netherlands. I’m crafty and I am jealous of her ability to make the cutest cards. We’ve been writing for just over a year now. I just love her letters. She is very sweet and chatty and I consider her a good friend.

Underneath her letter was a white card, which meant I had to go inside the post office to get a larger piece of mail. (I miss the days of an at home mailbox, but times are changing I guess. At least here, anyway.) Β I was very stoked when the mail lady came out with a big brown envelope. It meant that an autograph arrived! And it was from the one and only Henry Cavill, my 2nd favorite Superman!!!
