I am a bit late with my post this week. My personal goal is to post at least once a week, but when you have a migraine for a few days, your entire week goes to hell.Β I had been hoping to write another “From The Book Pile” but again, my migraine prevented me from reading. Hopefully I finish my next book by weeks end.
So, I thought this would be the perfect time Β to finally write about the best day of 2016-my wedding day. π
When Mr. C and I were planning, we wanted to make the day reflect us and what we love. After all, this is the one time we are doing this. So, after some talking, I came up with “Geek Chic”. And that is exactly what we had. A beautiful wedding with just the right amount of geekery added in. So if you are planning a geeky wedding, or having a unique theme, these may give you some ideas for your own big day. π
First I need to say that thanks to our amazing photographers, Nicole and Mike White -a husband and wife team from White Photography- we have every moment from our amazing day captured. I could never thank them enough for taking these photos, and making our day run smooth. I will cherish these for a lifetime.
Along with the nerdy accessories, I also had traditional. I wore my nan’s pearl necklace as a wrap around bracelet.
Another non nerdy item…but my favorite.
While I wore a variety of items, Mr. C went with one theme. His awesome accessories were all Star wars.
After each of us got ready (me at a B&B, him at a friends house), we did photos with our side of the wedding party before him and I met up for our first look. It was one of my favorite parts of the day. I highly recommend it. It was just the two of us and our photographers. It was intimate and romantic.
Our bridal party photo session was a blast. Nicole knew from the start that Mr. C and I are total nerds. She had done some ‘killer’ engagement photos for us months prior. So when she suggested to do a zombie themed photo, we were all for it. And our bridal party got in on the fun!
We got married in a local fire hall. It was an evening wedding followed by the receiving line, wine and cheese, and the reception.
I walked down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. Not only do I love the song but it fit in with the movie buff side of us. (Don’t judge me for kinda liking Twilight π
We did traditional vows, but we also did our version of a hand fasting/ hand fastening. With each braided ribbon that was tied around our hands, our JP had us say a line of nerdy vows. Which included, “To infinity and beyond”, “Live long and prosper”, “May the force be with you”, and “May the odds be ever in your favor”. Our guests just loved our fun and unique vows! Nobody was expecting that.
Once we were wed we walked out to Darth Vader’s Imperial March!
Later on, once the receiving line was finished, we walked back in to the theme song from Game of Thrones. I remember thinking “This is just how I pictured it! Just what I wanted”.
The guests had some time to check out our frickin awesome cake, made by one of my closest friends. Tanya worried I wouldn’t like it. She was right. I LOVED it!
Instead of having wedding favors, we did a candy buffet, so our guests could help themselves to our yummy treats. Needless to say, the entire table was a hit!
Once we got in and settled, I had a very special Master of Ceremony join us. It isn’t every day a Jedi Master takes part in a wedding!
Instead of the traditional clinking of the glasses to get us to kiss, we had our speakers roll a D20. This is a pillow my MoH made. This is now on the sofa in my game room. I made sure nobody got it dirty! π
The rest of the night was filled with a lot of dancing and fun had by all. And just about everyone got in on the photo booth action! I had encouraged guests to cosplay or wear nerdy attire. My friends didn’t disappoint. π
No matter what you plan to do on your big day, don’t let anyone stop you from doing what YOU want to do. While most of my family had no idea what to expect, they loved and enjoyed what we did. And supported it because it was what I wanted. Let your freak flag fly, my friends. Do what makes you happy.
