All The Feels: Boba Fett Chapter 6 Review

Standard

Firstly, I should start off by saying I am a huge Star Wars junky. I told Mr. C a few months ago that for my big 4-0 I want a Star Wars themed party. Not sure if that is going to happen, but hey, let’s see what happens in December.

While I know The Book of Boba Fett is getting mixed reviews, I am hardcore here for this. I go in with zero expectations and just go along for the ride. My post is less of a review and more of me just needing to get out all the feels I’m having about a few aspects of the episode. So be warned, some spoilers ahead.

Let’s just skip to chapter six of this saga, where there is just so much going on. We have Din Djarin, aka Mando, helping Boba. Timothy Olpyhant’s character Cobb Vanth is back and we meet a new baddie, Cad Bane. Ok so he’s not new but he is so new to me. Remember when I said I’m a Star Wars junky? Well I was never into the animation BUT don’t hate me too much, as I am making up for it and getting into the animation in recent times. On top of that Din finds Grogu and Luke, only to be stopped and guilt tripped by Ahsoka Tano. Yeah that’s right, I felt like she totally guilt tripped Din.

I get it, I do. She is after all only looking out for Grogu and his focus on training. To learn how to protect himself. I think all of us who love the lil green guy want him to survive and be around for a long time to come. But I’m a sucker for reunions. And I am here for the “I’m a bad ass but the kid melts my heart, I will die to protect them” trope. And finding out Grogu misses Din too is another gut punch. I legit yelled out “Mind your own biz, lady!” while watching the show.

Din ends up giving her the gift he brought for Grogu, where Luke later takes it out. And yet another sucker punch to my heart: Luke shows Grogu the cutest little set of armor, followed by a light saber, and wants him to choose. Either take the armor and go back to The Mandalorian, or stay, forget the armor and learn how to wield the saber.

Here is my question: WHY CAN’T THIE KID KEEP THE ARMOR AND LEARN TO USE THE SABER??

Ever since season one of The Mandalorian, I have been seeing some awesome fan art of Grogu wearing Mandalorian armor, images of him where he melded the two into his life. So, for the first time since I fell hook line and sinker for Star Wars, I was pissed at Luke Skywalker.

We don’t know what little Grogu picked. I am doubtful we will learn of his choice in the last episode but I’m pretty sure we are going to find out in season three of The Mandalorian.

So, are you a Star Wars junky too? Have you been watching the new series and if so, how are you enjoying it? Any geek feelings you need to get out like I did? LOL πŸ˜‰

My Big Fat Geek Wedding

Standard

I am a bit late with my post this week. My personal goal is to post at least once a week, but when you have a migraine for a few days, your entire week goes to hell.Β I had been hoping to write another “From The Book Pile” but again, my migraine prevented me from reading. Hopefully I finish my next book by weeks end.

So, I thought this would be the perfect time Β to finally write about the best day of 2016-my wedding day. πŸ™‚

When Mr. C and I were planning, we wanted to make the day reflect us and what we love. After all, this is the one time we are doing this. So, after some talking, I came up with “Geek Chic”. And that is exactly what we had. A beautiful wedding with just the right amount of geekery added in. So if you are planning a geeky wedding, or having a unique theme, these may give you some ideas for your own big day. πŸ™‚

First I need to say that thanks to our amazing photographers, Nicole and Mike White -a husband and wife team from White Photography- we have every moment from our amazing day captured. I could never thank them enough for taking these photos, and making our day run smooth. I will cherish these for a lifetime.

My amazing comic book shoes. Made my myself and my kick ass Matron of Honor.

img_1249

My Lord of The rings necklace, D20 earrings (I also had zombie earrings.)

Along with the nerdy accessories, I also had traditional. I wore my nan’s pearl necklace as a wrap around bracelet.

img_1262

I loved my handbag I bought on Etsy.

Another non nerdy item…but my favorite.

img_1282

Not geeky, but very special. A heart cut from my late dad’s shirt. So his heart was next to mine on my special day.

While I wore a variety of items, Mr. C went with one theme. His awesome accessories were all Star wars.

Cuff links. Darth Vader for hubby, Boba Fett for the Best Man and Storm troopers for the groomsmen.

Shoes from the Dark Side πŸ˜‰

And yes, even their boutineer’s were Star wars. They matched their cuff links. My MoH added the Star Wars bit and my florist Trinity did the rest.

After each of us got ready (me at a B&B, him at a friends house), we did photos with our side of the wedding party before him and I met up for our first look. It was one of my favorite parts of the day. I highly recommend it. It was just the two of us and our photographers. It was intimate and romantic.

Just the two of us ❀

Our bridal party photo session was a blast. Nicole knew from the start that Mr. C and I are total nerds. She had done some ‘killer’ engagement photos for us months prior. So when she suggested to do a zombie themed photo, we were all for it. And our bridal party got in on the fun!

img_2333-edit

Zombies won’t stop us from our “I do’s!”

We got married in a local fire hall. It was an evening wedding followed by the receiving line, wine and cheese, and the reception.

All the glasses had a nerdy image. The guys all had Star Wars. ALl done by Nabella Custom Design.

img_2394

Our names made from old comic books. My Matron of honor (and her family) were huge help. She made and helped with a lot for my big day.

img_2407

Geeky quotes, perfect for a wedding day. A steampunk decorated birdcage was our card holder.

img_2420

Instead of a guest book, I had stacks of books drawn up (MoH and her hubby). People signed their names on the spine. My niece surprised me with these amazing programs. It is one of my fave wedding gifts.

img_2417

My littlest bridesmaid gave me this wish jar the night before the wedding. And yes, we even had a wedding hashtag. Not many people used it but it was a great way to find photos after the big day.

I walked down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. Not only do I love the song but it fit in with the movie buff side of us. (Don’t judge me for kinda liking Twilight πŸ˜‰

We did traditional vows, but we also did our version of a hand fasting/ hand fastening. With each braided ribbon that was tied around our hands, our JP had us say a line of nerdy vows. Which included, “To infinity and beyond”, “Live long and prosper”, “May the force be with you”, and “May the odds be ever in your favor”. Our guests just loved our fun and unique vows! Nobody was expecting that.

Once we were wed we walked out to Darth Vader’s Imperial March!

Pure happiness right here.

Later on, once the receiving line was finished, we walked back in to the theme song from Game of Thrones. I remember thinking “This is just how I pictured it! Just what I wanted”.

The guests had some time to check out our frickin awesome cake, made by one of my closest friends. Tanya worried I wouldn’t like it. She was right. I LOVED it!

img_2401

Thor’s hammer for a topper. She made comic book flowers to add a bridal look and put our fave symbols on the cake. This was even better (and yummier!) then I pictured. I bought a plain cake cutter and knife at Micheal’s and added comic book ‘Bam!’ and ‘Pow’ stickers to it.

Instead of having wedding favors, we did a candy buffet, so our guests could help themselves to our yummy treats. Needless to say, the entire table was a hit!

img_2396

img_2399

Once we got in and settled, I had a very special Master of Ceremony join us. It isn’t every day a Jedi Master takes part in a wedding!

img_3182

Our friend did a fantastic job of this.

Instead of the traditional clinking of the glasses to get us to kiss, we had our speakers roll a D20. This is a pillow my MoH made. This is now on the sofa in my game room. I made sure nobody got it dirty! πŸ˜‰

img_2740

The rest of the night was filled with a lot of dancing and fun had by all. And just about everyone got in on the photo booth action! I had encouraged guests to cosplay or wear nerdy attire. My friends didn’t disappoint. πŸ˜‰

No matter what you plan to do on your big day, don’t let anyone stop you from doing what YOU want to do. While most of my family had no idea what to expect, they loved and enjoyed what we did. And supported it because it was what I wanted. Let your freak flag fly, my friends. Do what makes you happy.

My Newest (and most favorite!) Star Wars Item

Standard

It’s been a little hectic here in my part of the world. Work has been very busy (now I can buy groceries- yay! πŸ˜‰ ) and I have little time to myself. At the end of the day I am too tired to do very much, so projects, letters and reading have gone to the side for now.

I am however, slowly getting some things done for the wedding next year. So far there’s zombies, storm troopers, and super heroes incorporated.

I have been able to write the occasional piece of fan mail. A few weeks ago I wrote to one of my favorite kick ass women.

carrie fisher

Princess Leia. Bam!

When I wrote to Carrie Fisher, I had no idea if I would get a response and I figured it I did it would take a long time. But just over twenty days later I got this in the mail, so I am pretty stoked.

It’s almost TGIF, and I am celebrating a bit early. I am heading out for some good pub food with Mr. C and some friends shortly. Then I plan to sleep, work tomorrow. and sleep a part of my weekend away.

I hope your summer is going great and you are having lots of fun! πŸ™‚

A New Autograph and Fandom Friday!!

Standard

Well as promised, I said I’d be back this week with my first ever Fandom Friday!! The first theme is childhood movies.

Since I was unable to post earlier in the week, I’m bringing a bunch of geekiness to this post.

I was surprised tonight by a piece of mail. Mr. C thought it would be funny to hide my newest big brown envelope for awhile. I couldn’t be mad long when I opened it to find this!

img288

Hugh Jackman!!

I am a big fan of this guy and Wolverine is my most favorite character from the X-Men comics. So I am pretty stoked to have gotten this today! Yay!

My first Fandom Friday theme Β was inspired when I was sick earlier in the month. When I had the flu from hell, I spent a few days on my sofa, watching some of my favorites growing up. Movies that I still watch on a regular basis. I have a lot of them so for today’s random movie list I am picking five of my faves!

#1: The Princess Bride

TPB

Princess Buttercup and Westly.

This movie is a classic, and has a little bit of everything. Fencing, true love, revenge, to name just a few. I can safely say that Westly was my first ever crush and love. What’s not to like about a handsome and rugged man hurrying to rescue and be with his true love? I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times.

#2- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

TMNT

Old school turtles are the best!!

These old school turtles are way better then the new ones. I wish that they had kept these costumes, I’m not even kidding. I grew up obsessed with these lovable dudes. (And even dressed as Michelangelo for Halloween when I was 10.) It’s actually been awhile since I watched these, so that’s going up high on my to do list.

#3- Harry and The Hendersons

Harry-and-the-Hendersons

One of the first movies I fell in love with. Right after The Princess Bride.

I was about seven when I watched this for the first time. And I am pretty sure that Harry is the reason why I began to love and learn about myths and legends. This movie is too cute with some laughs and a few feels.

#4- Lady Hawke

Ladyhawke-ladyhawke-21708576-1024-768

I always was a sucker for romance.

Not only did I love the setting of this movie, I loved the magic and even at ten years old, I loved romance. Especially when the two were torn apart and couldn’t be together. When you love someone, you can overcome anything. Even when it seems impossible.

#5- Star Wars

Star-Wars-Episode-IV-A-Ne-004

A badass team.

I don’t really think I need to explain my love of Star Wars. Because it is fecking STAR WARS!!! What is not to love!? And they have a wookie for fuck sakes! A WOOKIE!!!! When Mr. C and I have our Big Fat Geek Wedding next year, our emcee is even dressing up as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I should technically thank one of my sister’s, since she is the one who introduced me to all these movies and turned me into the movie buff that I am today.

So, what movies did you love growing up? πŸ™‚

Con Fever

Standard

It’s around this time of year that I start planning my next convention trip. I’m either booking a hotel and a shuttle for Halifax for Hal-Con, or booking flights and a hotel to Toronto. Along with dreaming of what geeky events I will go to and all the nerdy things I can buy.

Toronto 2013 029

On of my fave spots to check out. I’ve bought several geeky tees and hats here.

Unfortunately, Β this year there will be no convention fun. Well, no trips anyway. With our BIG FAT GEEK WEDDING happening next year, we can’t afford any big trips. Not until after the wedding anyway. (BTW, honeymoon is going to be a convention, and we are so buying VIP tickets!)

Toronto 2013 001

First time at Fan Expo was in 2013. It’s a trip I still think about often.

There’s a con starting locally this year, called Caper Con. And we are planning on hitting it up. πŸ™‚ I will get more pumped once details start being announced, and at least we don’t have to worry about travel (it’s a twenty minute drive away) or hotel (just our own geeky hideout.)

Toronto 2013 008

You never know who-or what!- you will see at a convention. πŸ˜‰

But I admit I miss planning a trip. I’ve been talking about conventions a lot over the past two weeks with people, which is fueling my con fever. If only I could win the lotto to do All The Things! πŸ˜‰

fan expo and Toronto 2014 014

Every single con I have been to, there is ALWAYS LOADS of Star Wars. (Not complaining!)

In a future post I will show you some of my fave highlights from cons I have been to. And I would love to hear stories from you as well! What do you love most about comic cons? If you’ve never been, what interests you most?
